Recording game audio + mic at the same time?

Is there any way to record directly from the sound device, and record through the mic? My microphone is on a headset, so I can't record the game through speakers (too quiet for the mic to pick up). I've tried FRAPS but I can't find any option to do this. I've also tried Goldwave and Audacity, but they won't let me record while the program is minimized.

    FRAPS 3.2.3
    Windows XP

    Thanks to everyone who helps!

Edit: I just tried recording on Goldwave, then minimizing, then opening the game. As soon as I started FRAPS, it switched from the mic to the sound recorder and started to record the game sound (like FRAPS does).

So clicking the "Record external input" button in addition to the other record option doesn't record both for you?

I don't have a 'Record External Input' button. It just says 'Record Sound' and lists either 'Detect Best Sound Input' or 'Use Windows Input' to choose.

It might be a windows XP limitation then. I've not used XP in forever, but hopefully someone reads this that can help.

    Try virtual audio cables.
