I've been recording great with FRAPS @ full-res for years, but I recently upgraded my monitor to a 1920x1200 from a 1680x1050. It seems the extra increase in resolution has made me hit a bottleneck and I can no longer record at full, I either have to switch on half res recording or drop the in game resolution to 1280x720. At full-res I get about 20-24FPS (noticeable in-game and in video), I would like 30FPS+ (butter smooth). 1280x720 I easily get 60FPS. At 1680x1050 I used to be able to get 35+- FPS.
My system:
i7 920 @ 3ghz
6GB DDR 3 @ 1600mhz
Radeon 4870x2
1x Raptor 80GB - Operating System
1x Western Digital 1TB Caviar Black - Games
1x Western Digital 1TB Caviar Black - FRAPS
I'm fairly sure its the FRAPS drive reaching its write speed capacity. Should I replace it and if so, which drive would be able to handle the load? RAID is unfortunately not an option at this point in time as I have no more drive space in the drive rack.
