Hi all. I've been using FRAPS for quite a LONG time now.

My problem is somewhat strange, I have a decent computer, and the games I record have no problem recording at 40+ frames a second. For the past 6 months I've used FRAPS no problem. But then all of a sudden, I'm getting strange lag surges.

What happens in this; I start recording and everything is running smoothly. Then, all of a sudden the frames drop from 50 to 4 in a few seconds. I've taken into consideration that the areas of the game I'm recording do not impact the performance or frames of the game whilst recording.

It's strange. I was playing FEAR last night, recording was smooth for about 20 minutes, and then while I was recording at an average 40 frames a second basically everywhere in the level, the frames dropped to 5 frames in just under a few seconds. This kept continuing as I tried in vain to record. It made it impossible.

I don't know what is going on. I thought maybe I needed more HDD space, but I still have over 100 gig free. I've started a new folder to store the movie files in, still no change. This lag is really bugging me.

I have not made any changes to anything, and now it's lagging for me.

Could anyone assist me please?

Try defragging the drive. Also, you could split the drive into two partitions and store your finished recordings in the second partition. The first partition in the partition manager will be on the faster part of the drive platter and be better suited for live recording.

Weird, all I did was a system restart and re installation of FRAPS and it works fine now. Thanks for the help anyway.
