View Full Version : Fraps not recording properly

All right, I decided to make a video of the new L4D2 DLC, The Passing, and I successfully made it through the first chapter with Fraps recording it. So happy and whatnot, I decided to leave the game, go to my destination folder, and watch the little 30 second clips.

It worked the first couple times in WMV, but after a couple tries, every single one of my little clips that fraps cut my game video into ended up turned into a music only video. (even though its still an .avi, its only playing the sound)

I'm using the retail version of Fraps v. 2.9.9. I'm sure that the problem is probably the version, as I don't know if its fully compatible with my system, (W7 Ultimate w/ latest updates and 1920x1080 resolution screen w/ HD are the only 2 that I can think of that might cause a problem) but I'd rather not download the newest version of it, simply because I don't really like installing things on my computer. I just don't understand why it would take a video, and then just completely trash the files.

Are you sure the video isn't there and the player isn't choking? How big are the video "blank" files compared to the ones with video?

Try another player such as VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/) to be sure that it isn't your media player having issues.

After I compiled all the clips in Nero Vision, it appeared to me that it wasn't a fault of fraps, but rather a fault of Windows' bad movie viewer (and maker for that matter) program. But I read in the changelog that the versions 3 and up were compatible with Windows 7, is there something that fraps doesn't do correctly with W7 practically, or is it just fixing the "Run FRAPS when Windows starts" to actually start with W7?

Thanks for the help regardless. :)
